Great Grandpa and Grandma's house is always the first stop before trick-or-treating at Papaw and Mamaw's ward.

The good ol' South Stake Trunk-or-Treat with Papaw and Mamaw is never a let down. As a matter of fact, it is by far the highlight of every Halloween, complete with haunted "trunks", fog machines, a hotdog dinner, and a bucket of candy collected in 15 minutes.

After two consecutive late nights of trick-or-treating and two little sugar-loaded bellies, Cyrus and Darius got to give out their own candy to the trick-or-treaters who came to our house on Sunday! ;)

Although we planned our trip to Washington for a month, our plans changed when our friends and hosts, the Ogdens, came down with what appeared to be "the bug". Kim and Lanette Empey were so kind to be willing to house us for almost our entire stay.

Jake, Jana, Jack and Jess also made a spur of the moment decision and decided to drive up and surprise Kim and Lanette, and we're so glad they did! All the little boys had the time of their lives riding on motorcycles with the big boys.

It was great to have a nice vacation and relax with amazing family and friends. We must have had time on our hands to have painted this candy corn design on Jana's toenails. They look delicious enough to eat! :)

"The bug" turned out to be an abscessed tooth, so our dear friends, Jeremy, Esther, Zach, Owen and Avery, came to take a tour of the orchards with us. We picked BOXES of apples and found our new favorite, Pinata apples. WOW they were delicious! We also got to watch the bottling process for the Empey's amazing sparkling cider. It was really interesting to watch and REALLY delicious to taste!

Summer Peach Pickers

It's nearing the time when these two boys will turn pasty for the winter, but while the sun is still shining they will pick away!

You don't have to worry about where Cyrus is when you go picking. You're sure to find him at the top of the picking ladder. So dangerous and yet so cute!

If you look closely you can see the tears in Darius' eyes. He didn't have as much fun as Cyrus that day. Was it too much peach picking or too little sleep? Little Rachel Brown didn't seem to mind as much.

I endeavored in my first big Choffy show at the Women's Show 2010. It was two days straight of a whole bunch of standing and a whole bunch of fun! The best part was spending two days with my friends old and new; Esther Ogden, Andi Sherwood and Allie Burris. Thank you Mom and Dad for taking care of the boys and making those two days possible!

Stephanie, Cyrus, Katie (Edminster) Whitten, baby Lillian and I finished off the long weekend by walking the Women's Fitness Celebration race. I was so impressed that Cyrus walked nearly the entire way before he needed ride in the stroller, and I, at three months pregnant, didn't pass out half way through!

It was nice to participate in the race with Katie again, just like in grade school days!

We had a fun surprise at the end of the race when Uncle Race was there to cheer us on in a tuxedo coat and bright blue shorts! It was so much fun... I hope team Choffy, Stephanie, Cyrus and Katie will be up for doing this again next year!

The Union Pacific Railroad Steam Locomotive came to Boise during its tour of the Northwest.
This was one huge train, and seeing this steam locomotive was a first for me.

Papaw was so excited to show his two boys this amazing train.
He even bought them their own train whistles, toy stacking train and t-shirt to remember it!

We met the train conductor. He was really nice and he told us all about the train.

Lex's 10-year Class Reunion

North Freemont High School Class of 2000 10 Year Class Reunion
Lex and I had a great time seeing his friends from high school.
There was a picnic at Ashton Park, a tour of the new high school,
and a great catered dinner with a slide-show about all the
class members and the last ten years of their lives. Lex and some of his classmates were able to go visit a boy from their class who was home-bound and unable to attend the reunion.
What a wonderful group of friends!

Lex and Cyrus went
on the Father's and Son's camp-out.

They had a fun adventure together;
with campfire and s'mores,
football, tents,
skipping rocks and canoeing!

We had a real animal adventure with Jessica, Mackenzie and
Alison when they came to visit from Texas in May.
All the exciting animals were out... the lions, tigers and giraffes...
and the kids had a blast chasing each other around the zoo.
It was wonderful to see "Wes" (Jessica) again and we hope to
see her and her family again very soon!

Time to catch up on the months past!

Cyrus and Darius made the cutest costumed kids
that ever dressed up for Halloween!

Having two children, despite being only three years old
and seven months old, really does double the treats
that you bring home on Halloween night.
Trick-or-treating around the neighborhood
and getting spoiled at Mama's and Papaw's
trunk-or-treat made for a huge stash of candy.
There's still some left six months later!

Ode to Cub Scouts

I was called as the Education Counselor in the Relief Society in April, which also means that I was released from one of my favorite callings; the Wolves Cub Scouts leader. I am going to miss those energetic, goofy, happy boys!!!

I will miss working with you and being your leader. Thank you for making Cub Scouts so much fun. Good luck with all your projects to come. Keep working hard and be happy!

Easter Fun 2009

Three Easter Egg Hunts, flag football, kite flying, Easter dinner
and lots of sunny weather made Easter very eventful this year.
Lex and Cyrus had a great timeplaying flag football at the Doughty's Easter Egg Hunt.

Darius didn't understand what the big deal was about
flag football! It was a little windy for him that day.

Easter Sunday included enjoying a wonderful morning at church,
a fun little Easter Egg Hunt for Cyrus and Jack
at Grandma Bassett's house, and a wonderful Easter dinner
with the whole Bassett Family. We couldn't have asked for more.

The Day You Were born Darius

The Story of Darius' Birthday
March 12, 2009

This story really begins the day before Darius' birthday.
Wednesday was a normal day with plans for Lex and me
to teach a dance at mutual for the Regional Youth Dance Festival.
Those plans all changed after my doctor's appointment.
After a blood pressure reading of 148/92 Dr. Lowder advised
that I be induced and that Darius be born the very next day.
So, by doctor's orders, NO DANCING!
Well I did my best to take it easy but just couldn't resist dancing a little.
That evening I received a Priesthood blessing from Lex.
Afterward I felt comforted and strengthened for the momentous day to come.

6AM was an early start to the day, even for such a wonderful event.
From check-in to delivery labor moved quickly. (What an understatement!)
Petocin was added to my IV and made contractions and dilation
move swiftly and steadily. Dr. Lowder broke my water at 7:15AM.
It didn't take me long to realize I really wanted some
relief from the contractions which were fast and strong coming,
so 45 minutes later an epidural was in place and beginning to work.

On his own time Darius decided when he was ready to be born
and when he had his mind made up he didn't waist a moment getting out.
Dilation from 5 to 9 1/2 cm took place in just FIFTEEN minutes
(from 9AM to 9:15AM). Is that a record? It is in my book!
Suddenly becoming aware of the fast pace at which he was moving,
I called my mom (Mamaw) at 9:15AM and said
"If you don't hurry you're going to miss it".
It only took her eleven minutes to get to the hospital,
but she was two minutes too late. After six MINUTES of pushing
I held the most beautiful treasure in my arms.
Lex and I were so overjoyed to hear him cry
and feel him in our arms for the first time.

This glorious baby was soon to be named Darius C Case.
Born at 9:24AM. 7lbs 9oz., 20 3/4 in. long.

Family came to meet our new bundle later that afternoon.
Grandparents, aunts and uncles were so excited to see
what Cyrus first reaction would be.

After the nurse brought Darius back from his routine well check,
Lex and I exclaimed to Cyrus "Your baby brother Darius is here!
He was born today". Cyrus, having just woken up,
was calm and quiet and quickly replied
"I didn't want him to come today".

However as soon as he caught a glance of his little brother,
he walked over to the hospital bed and said "I want to hold him".
From that moment on he has been a protector
and best friend to his little brother Darius.

Darius,
Oh how awesome it was to hold your perfect, beautiful body,
feel your warm joyful Spirit,
and be able to look at you lovingly for the first time.
Your daddy, brother and I couldn't help falling in love with you
the very moment we set eyes on you.
We love you so much and we're so happy you came into our lives.

Kids Fair 2009

Cyrus had a blast at the fair grounds for the Kids Fair.
Highlights of this day included *spending the day with Katie,

*meeting Dora the Explorer, *petting the reptiles,

*and meeting McGruff the Crime Dog.

with Cyrus' little brother!

Hoe Down Fun

The highlight of our experience for me was
the Hoe Down. Everyone had a fabulous time.

PaPaw Dooby agreed to be the DJ and did an amazing job.
THANKS!
I was lucky enough to teach line dancing.
Whew! What a workout.

The bungee bull was a big hit for Lex and Cyrus and all
the athletes.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is awesome. We are so lucky we had the opportunity
to meet the Kazakhstan team.

Yevgeniy Barsukov (17) and Beibit Abay (16) were the
two athletes that stayed at our house. It was challenging to
communicate, but they were so patient with us.

The highlights of our entertainment included a tour of the Bronco
Stadium and a three and 1/2 hour shopping trip to WalMart
where wonderful employee Olga spoke Russian and helped
them find EVERYTHING they wanted to take home to Kazakhstan.

Since there wasn't a lot of communicating done at home, they
stayedwell entertained playing Mark and MaLea's Wii.
I suppose that helped them stay in the competitive mode
for their Floor Hockey events to come.

Cherished Moments

As Lex and I await the arrival of our second little boy,

we find ourselves cherishing

every moment we spend with Cyrus.

He has been such an amazing blessing in our lives.

It's very clear we've learned more from him

in the last two years than he has from us.

He makes us laugh every day.

He must be getting bored of just having

the two of us around, because he can't wait

for his little brother to be born in March.

A very special Christmas present

Cousin Logan bought Cyrus the special Christmas present he was hoping for. Cyrus got two goldfish; Nemo and Lilly. He also got two porcelain fish for the tank; a shark named Mr. T. and a blow fish named Big D.

His excitement hasn't died down since the first day he got them. Every morning when he wakes up he uses the "potty" and then we feed the fish. All through the day he checks up on them and watches them to see which fish is watching back.

Christmas Cheer!

Since Cyrus understands the concept of Christmas much more

this year, it was wonderful for Grandma Case to have a

special Christmas message about Jesus' birth and the

Wise men on Christmas Eve. Cyrus learned that we get

presents on Christmas day because the Wise men

gave Jesus presents for his birthday,

so we give presents to remember Jesus.

All that said, Cyrus loves Santa!

From the time we set out our Christmas decorations,

Cyrus was so excited for Santa to bring him

presents on Christmas day. Santa certainly

didn't disappoint this year.

Santa brought Cyrus his very own cook book, measuring cups

and spoons, and this wonderful Santa apron, hat and oven mits.

He broke them in baking with Grandma Case,

and he's already used them three times since.

Snow Snow and more Snow

We arrived in Ashton for Christmas to find more snow than Boise has ever had at one time. The boys spent a great deal of their time out in the cold; fishing, swinging, riding the snow plow, sledding, and more swinging!

Madison and Cyrus practically wore the swing set out. That was the sure way to keep them both entertained, even through frustrating colds and a short spell of the stomach flu.

That swinging business is hard work. Grandpa Case swung Cyrus until he was out cold!

Getting ready for Christmas

Lex and Cyrus drinking hot chocolate on top of the roof! They were taking a little break from our first annual outdoor Christmas light hanging. We finally got them up for our 5th married Christmas.

The first snow of the year. Snow was much more exciting for Cyrus at two years old than it was at one.

Our first true blue Christmas tree. With all the blue and silver decorations, it turned out to be much nicer than I ever expected.

Talking to Santa at the North Pole

Grandpa Peek has a wonderful tradition setting up his

Ham Radio at St. Luke's and letting the children

talk to Santa at the North Pole. This year Cyrus was big

enough to have his first conversation with

Santa over the Ham Radio.

Cyrus was very excited about the entire experience.

He was so happy to get to talk to Santa.

He was just as excited to see Grandpa Peek! He told Santa

he wants a Goldfish for Christmas and I think

he will be pleasantly surprised. It has been

fun to take Cyrus Christmas shopping this year because

he helps pick out his presents and then forgets

about them once we get home.

Boise Thanksgiving 2008

We have so many things to be thankful for at this

holiday time. We were so blessed to be surrounded

by family during Thanksgiving.

We also have the wonderful blessing of the Gospel truth

in our lives. We are so happy to know that this blessing

is what allows us to be an Eternal Family.

Thanks to my Mom's hard work cooking (and the assistance

of everyone else) we had a festive, food-filled Thanksgiving.

My Mom is sure a "Culinary Genius"! (Thanks Emilie!!!!)

Visitors come from out of town to help us celebrate Thanksgiving.

Grandma and Grandpa Case and Des, Tiffany and Parker came to

enjoy the holiday with MaLea and Jed who live here in town.

Cyrus really enjoyed the company of cousins Parker and Jordyn

and he's counting down the days until we go to see

many more cousins in Ashton for Christmas on his

"Potty Treat/Christmas Ashton Trip Advent Calendar".

Hopefully he will have completed his long but entertaining

adventure of potty training by the time we go.

Side note... *Much to my dismay, my ever-growing baby waist

grew an inch over the Thanksgiving weekend and continues

to expand every day. But so does my excitement!

My first opera experience

I've never been to an opera but I managed to sing in my first opera. I really enjoyed learning how to move around on stage and the whole experience was so much fun.

I was so relieved after the performance when everyone only had wonderful things to say about attending their first opera. They enjoyed the show much more than they expected to.

I look forward to performing in another opera sometime in the future. I'll let you know when that happens!

The wonderful adventures of Cyrus the Great

This morning Cyrus was so funny telling stories

and learning to open the brown sugar jar.

He is one smart boy, and very entertaining.

You'll get a kick out of these.

Cyrus has been saying and singing many rhymes and here

is a video of just a couple of them. I had to get them on video to remember

these adorable moments.

of it slowly over the next year until he saves

Trunk-or-Treat was the best ever because Cyrus

played with Logan and Adam.

Becca, Mom and Dad took him around to all the

candy stops and Cyrus thought Grandpa Clown

was the star of the show.

Cyrus crashed before he got to sort

through all of his hard-earned treats.

Sometime in March our second little baby boy is going to be

born and Cyrus will become a big brother!

Cyrus is a great helper. It will be wonderful to have a

little helper around when the baby comes.

His favorite new chore is scrubbing the wood floor

with the brissely vacuum accessory. His second favorite

chore is holding the dustpan after I sweep. He helps fold the

towels, cleans the toy room, and lots of other things!

Cyrus may just become the most loving, best sharing

big brother in history. He loves to see how people react

when he shares what he's eating or playing with.

We always give him a great big thank you and a hug.

Although we've been teaching and telling him about being

nice for a long time, he's now really grasping what it means

to be "nice". He uses this idea of sharing to remind us

how to share too. If we have something he's not supposed

to play with, he always says "Please share Daddy!" or

"Please Share Uncle Jake!". Hopefully he'll keep

sharing when the baby comes along!

Fun day at the Fire House

Jake is volunteering with Eagle Fire and he invited us to

attend their open house today.

We went and had a blast despite the freezing windy weather.

It used to have a roof! I now know that I will be

safely extricated if I ever get stuck in a car!

SPECIAL REQUEST!

I want to have as many people as possible try out this

recipe and TELL ME how their's turns out.

It's easy and delicious so print this recipe and when you

have a few spare cooking minutes,

PLEASE TRY THIS:

SUSAN’S ENGLISH TOFFEE

1 cup butter (Land O’ Lakes BAKING Butter during the Holidays)
1 cup sugar
3 tbs. water
1 pkg. milk chocolate chips (Ghirardelli, Belgian, Hershey’s, or anything I suppose!)
2 cups sliced almonds

(The trick is figuring out exactly how long to cook the mixture. I’ve cooked it too long and it hardens too fast but sometimes I don’t cook it long enough and it doesn’t set up as well. So just keep trying until it’s just right!)

-Use a heavy skillet. Melt butter and add sugar and water on medium high heat.

-Stir continuously with wooden spoon and when mixture just begins to turn to a lighter yellow/very light brown color, remove from heat and stir 1½ cups sliced almonds into the mixture.

-Spread evenly onto a cookie sheet.

-While still hot, sprinkle chocolate chips over mixture. As they melt, lightly smooth the chocolate over the mixture. Then sprinkle remaining ½ cup of sliced almonds on top.

- Refrigerate overnight and when toffee is hard break it into desired sized pieces.

Easy Peach Jello Jam

This is the recipe I used to make my peach freezer jam.

Print it off and save it for the next time you have extra peaches.

I think it's delicious!

EASY PEACH JELLO JAM

6 cups mashed fruit
3 cups sugar
2 (3 oz.) packages jello peach gelatin
1 tbs. lemon juice

1. Mix fruit and sugar in a large pan
2. Bring to a boil for 3 minutes
3. Add Jello
4. Freeze in freezer containers

Makes 3-4 pints

Lex and his business partner Don started a logistics company

and they are at work by 7AM!

This is Lex hard at work at the new office.

So we have all been going to bed earlier

and waking up earlier.

I get up when Lex leaves just before 7AM

and Cyrus wakes up about a half hour later.

The other day Cyrus and I watched the sun rise together because he woke up at 7:28AM. He surprisingly just sat and watched out the window with me for a good 15 minutes while he woke up.

Peach and Pear Processing Extravaganza 2008!

Our wonderful new neighbor Jessica brought her daughters Lane and Evyn and went with Cyrus and me to pick peaches and a pears.

Grandma Bassett helped me get all of mine canned. It was so much fun to learn all about how she does her canning. I also froze some to use for peach cobbler and made some AMAZING Peach Jam with a recipe my mom gave me.

Cyrus was my big helper through the whole process. Thanks Cyrus... and everyone else who helped!

We're having a baby!

What a relief to have our move over with and to finally be unpacked and settled. As most of you know, we loved our other house! Unfortunately it was an investment that wasn't paying...
but we are now in another wonderful house and still have such amazing memories from the old house.

Just before we moved Cyrus got an awesome big boy hair cut.
He looks so big, and as a matter of fact, he is so big!
At his two-year appointment, he measured in the 90th percentile for his height.
He also knows more words and speaks in better sentances
than any other two-year-old I know!

Yesterday we went to breakfast and had an Easter egg hunt with "Papaw" and "Mamaw". Cyrus understood what was happening this year, so he had so much fun! Uncle Kirk and Aunt Yeeta loaded him down with Easter gifts! Uncle Kirk asked to make sure it was okay to give him a chocolate bunny. Little did we know it was a ONE POUND chocolate bunny!

Today he woke up and we gave him his Easter basket. He thought that was pretty awesome. He has more sugar than we would let him eat in a month, although he would eat it all in one day if he had the chance!

We ate Easter dinner today at Great Grandma and Grandpa Bassett's house. Cyrus had tuns of fun playing with his "cousin" Jack, and pretty much everyone else in the entire world, because they were almost all there!

Wow it's been a long week already. Just had to tell you all of our miserable misfortune. All three of us have the stomach flu. Lex caught it a little later than Cyrus and I, but it's still lingering. For the most part everyone agrees that Jordyn has MaLea's beautiful looks and personality! Just wait until you see her, you couldn't agree more!!!

Although she was a few weeks early, we were able to see her and hold her in the hospital. I think everyone fell head-over-heels for her. Cyrus is in love with his new little cousin and has already had the chance to hold her.

*SO MUCH FUN*

Petter (left) and Eric (right) are athletes from Sweden and they stayed with us for 3 days before the invitational games. We did so many fun things while they were here that I can't possibly write about all of them. We made pizzas, toured some of downtown Boise, went to an AMAZING hoedown at Bogus Creek Outfitters, did so many fun activities at the historical museum, including lassoing a cow and tying quilts and so many other things.

Petter and Eric did really well in their events. Petter got a gold medal in both of his events; the Super G and the Giant Slalom. WOW! Eric took bronze in the Giant Slalom and fourth place in the Suger G. As you can imagine, we were so excited about that.

Just yesterday they flew back to Sweden, and we already miss them.
We learned some fun new things from them, because Petter is the "ROCK AND ROLL KING"! He know all the artists and song titles for every 70's-90's Rock song that played on the radio. As you can imagine, Lex had a lot of fun doing that!
Eric was so fun to be around, and had so much energy (when he was feeling well). He LOVED KARAOKE singing, and LOVED to dance, and as you can imagine, I had a lot of fun doing that!
Actually, everything was a blast the entire time!
We had so much fun getting to know them and everyone else we were so fortunate to spend time with. We hope that we will be given the opportunity to volunteer again next year during the big games. Soon after Christmas was over, we spent a few days in the deep, cold, two feet of snow! Cyrus had tonsilitis most of that time but he tried to lift his spirits by enjoying a little snow time and Grandpa's new record fish. Madison and Leesa came to town for MaLea's baby shower and Cyrus and Madison seemed to get along pretty well. They mostly wanted to play with the same toys and drink from the same cup. We can't wait to do it again!

We had so much fun during Christmas here in Boise. We spent Christmas Eve at Uncle Floyd's house with his family, Grandpa Peek, Elaine's family, Yeeta's family, our whole family of course! Christmas day we went to open presents at Papaw and Mamaw's house then we had brunch at Great Grandpa and Grandma's house. Cyrus was old enough that he really enjoyed tearing open the rapping paper and discovering his fun presents!

Short and quick trip to Ashton

We went on a little trip to Ashton last weekend and it was a lot of fun. It was nice to get away from school and work (for the most part) for just a little while. Cyrus slept during church, and got to ride in the wheel barrow with grandma pushing him!

We stopped in Jerome to see Des, Tiffany and Parker on the way home, and Cyrus had so much fun with Parker's toys! He sat on the "Elmo couch" with Parker, played with the ducks in the pond, played with all the frogs (Pinksy, Greensy, Bluesy, Orangesy, Yellowsy, and Redsy) and read a book too! We can't wait to do all of that again.

(It's a rare occasion that I get three entries in over a ten day period, so you might not see another for a while.)

Hi everyone. The holidays are coming up and we can't wait for a vacation. I am taking eight classes in school right now, Lex is working harder than ever to get some new ideas going, and Cyrus has never been BUSIER! Mom, thank you so much for watching him all the time!!! He keeps us and everybody else chasing him around 24/7.
Halloween is just around the corner and Cyrus will be a mummy. I'll be sure and post the pictures. There's new news in the family. Sorry to those of you who we hadn't told yet, but we were expecting another baby. The baby was going to be born around the beginning of June, but Heavenly Father had other plans for that little Spirit. We appreciate all your love and friendship. Lex was released from his FAVORITE calling in the Singles Ward bishopric recently, so this last week was our first time at the new ward. It will be great to get to meet lots of new people. It's back to school time and it's my last year! Oh, and most importantly, Cyrus is walking! We are so happy that he's running around and keeping us busy. He's so full of energy. It's great!

Fun Vacations this summer

We all had a family reunion in Ashton. Everyone was able to come and we had a great time! We also celebrated Cyrus's first birthday while we were there. Then Cyrus and I went to Snowbird with the gals in Lex's family while Lex stayed home and ran the show here at our new place. Just after the ladies left, lots of my family came to get in on the fun. We all had a blast! Went shopping, swimming, rode rides, you name it!

To the beach... in January???

Yes in January! The sun was shining, the lodging was affordable, and well pretty much Cyrus and I had a blast on the Oregon Coast with Mamaw and all the ladies in the Peek/Dean ladies families.

We went to all the shops on the beach and ate at the "Sea Hag".

The salt water and beautiful beach must have made us long for summer... either that or it made us a little crazy. Rebecca looks like she's trying to surf on that huge tire!

Cyrus was a lone male (most of the time) among many women and he was spoiled the entire time. Mamaw, Aunt Elaine and Aunt Yeeta bought him new train conductor clothes and they are so adorable on him! He was held the entire time, including while he was sleeping. It might be tough to get back to our usual sleeping routine after this trip.

Aunt Leara made beautiful shoulder bags for each lady who came to the coast. She used Grandma Norma's material in each bag and put so much time and thought into designing each bag uniquely for every one of us. We will always treasure our bag. Thank you Aunt Leara!

Start planning now because we hope to make these girl retreats an annual event!!!

Baby's first Christmas

Cyrus and Madison celebrated their first Christmas together at Grandpa and Grandma Case's house.

We were lucky enough to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve in Ashton with the whole Case family. Cyrus got to spend Christmas with ALL his cousins, and it was wonderful to celebrate in the true Spirit of Christmas, giving love and gifts to our loved ones.
Merry Christmas and good bye to an amazing 2006 filled with some of our greatest blessing to date!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Papaw and Mamaw's house. Needless to say everyone had tons of leftovers to take home, especially pies! The whole Peek family was there and everyone wanted to hold, the only grandson, or grandchild for that matter.

Cyrus had such a great time playing the maracas with Papaw. He's becoming quite the musician already at the young age of four months!

Nearing the end

For a music major, senior recital means college school days are coming to an end!!! My senior recital went well. I am so grateful to everyone who was able to come and support. The recital hall was full. Wowee! Thank you!!!

Cyrus bounced around to the Childhood Fables for Grownups, aka: the animal songs, and spent much of the evening being entertained by Grandma Case and Mamaw on the stairs. Thank heaven for video recording, so they can watch the rest of the show another time.

The recital was a lot of work and I am happy to have it under my belt! Other highlights of the evening included songs from a multi-lingual repoirtoire as required by Boise State's vocal studeo: "Vergebliches Standchen" by Johannes Brahms, "Les Berceaux" by Gabriel Faure, "Se tu della mia morte" by Alessandro Scarlatti, and fabulous music shared by Mike Smith.

The Story of Cyrus' Birthday
July 27, 2006

We watched my blood pressure elevate for the last three months of my pregnancy, and then one week before Cyrus' was due, the doctor ORDERED Cyrus to be born. So that's
exactly what happened.

Lex gave me a blessing and drove me to St. Luke's Hospital in Boise for my induction scheduled at 7AM on Thursday, July 27th, 2006. I was feeling mostly excited and also nervous about how painful labor was going to be because I planned to have
my baby naturally.

At the hospital I was induced just after 7AM and my OBGYN, Dr. Lowder, broke my water around 8:30AM. Despite my original birthing plan to deliver without pain meds, my water being broke combined with the Pitocin medicine made labor go from mildly uncomfortable to "umm... maybe that epidural doesn't really sound so bad after all" in no time flat. I waited out the pain for as long as I could stand it and then I told the nurse I would like an epidural. Lex and my mom were the two best people to have there with me during that experience.

After the epidural was in and working its magic, I relaxed and even had a little nap. My body followed its natural course in preparing to deliver and after a few hours of waiting, then five or six pushes in the concluding half hour...

Cyrus Lex Case was born at 2:25PM on July 27, 2006.
He weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces, was 20 inches long,
with a head circumference of 13 1/4 inches.

Ten fingers, ten toes, and a healthy set of lungs are the first things parents think about when their baby is born. We were blessed with that and much more. Cyrus is a beautiful, perfect baby with a beautiful, perfect spirit to match.

Dear Cyrus,

I remember the first time I held you. The nurse placed you in my arms, and holding your little perfect body felt so natural, like I had been holding you my whole life. It was my first real understanding of what heaven must feel like. I was filled with an overwhelming love for you. From that moment until the end of eternity I will always be happy with you as my son.

Getting ready for a big change...

When Lex and I decided we wanted to have a baby just 6 months after we were married, it soon became apparent that Heavenly Father's plan for us was different than what we had in mind. A year later, in December of 2005, we found out I was going to have a baby! Since it had taken a year for me to get pregnant, we were SO surprised, a little nervous and really really excited!

Pregnancy seemed like smooth sailing for me compared to all the horror stories I had heard. I NEVER threw up... and that's all I really need to say, right? The baby was healthy throughout the entire pregnancy, I worked and completed my junior year of college, and I had ALL my family close to help and support me.

Lots of fun projects, my version of what some might call "nesting", proceeded the arrival of our new bundle. Painting the nursery was probably the most fun for me. I fell in love with a very blue idea for the nursery, and ran with it.

With the house cleaned and organized, nursery prepared, baby supplies stocked up, bags packed, 30 extra pounds loaded on, and scheduled induction date for the next morning, I was ready for the baby to be here! Lex took this picture of me the night before I was to be induced.
